Introductions are in order!
Might as well introduce myself. My name is Matt. I’m a passionate gamer who always wanted to make my own games. I feel like I have a lot of creative ideas to share with the world, so here is my start as an indie game dev.
Why not write my own game engine?
I would love that! But as a stay-at-home father with two young children, their needs proceed my own. My focus is to make sure my children grow up well adjusted and happy, and receive the support they need while my wife is working. So I get to work on my game dev either while they are asleep, or when my wife is home from work.

- Game dev is both fun, but also one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done.
- But being a full-time dad means time I spend developing is precious.
- I’m developing in Unity to speed up the process and focus on bringing rewarding gameplay instead of worrying about whose game engine is better.

Why Unity?
I chose Unity simply because of accessibility. The number of free tutorials and course content on the internet is immense. And while you could probably say the same about both Unreal Engine and Godot, I threw a dart at the board of engines and landed on Unity.
Write your own engine!
While I could pretend that I have all the time in the world, I don’t. I have some experience writing code in Javascript and have worked in web development for startups, but cutting my teeth on writing my own engine is more than I can handle while also trying to create fun and rewarding gameplay.
My game philosophy
I’m determined to get a game published. And not only published, but something that offers the gamer an experience that takes them out of their world. I believe gaming should immerse players, not because of cutting edge graphics, or a high amount of realism, but because it’s engaging and fun. Gameplay rewards the player, and players come first when it comes to game development. Modern “AAA” studios, while providing many aspects of a game, have become almost entirely focused on bottom line profits, wrapping their products in what looks like a game, but is really a money generating product not focused on gamers.
When Gamers become the Product
When you last bought a game, was it an indie title or a triple-A project? Was it filled with microtransactions and paywall blocked content? Or did you buy a game and have the universe open up to you. I hope that my games can spark the sense of exploration and wonder that games had when I was young. Before ever experience had to be purchased on top of the game you already bought!
You can follow my development
I’ll be posting most of my content as I develop it to Youtube. I also have other social media that you can find in the footer of this blog. Feel free to give us a follow and join us on a journey of fun and excitement as we delve into the world of game development.
